Mother Earth Foundation was selected by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Pampanga to be the NGO representative to the Provincial Solid Waste Management Board (PSWMB).
Chaired by Pampanga Governor Lilia G. Pineda, the PSWMB includes all the mayors of its component cities and municipalities; private sector representatives including a representative from the NGO sector, whose principal purpose is to promote recycling and protection of air and water quality; and representatives from the recycling, and manufacturing or packaging industries.
MEF Program Director Zen Borlongan represented MEF in the last PSWMB Meeting held on March 28, 2012 at the Governor’s Staff House in Clarkfield, Pampanga. Highlights of the meeting included PG-ENRO Arthur Punzalan’s presentation of the status of the waste problem in the province and the creation of the Technical Working Group that will oversee the implementation of the Provincial Solid Waste Management Plan, especially in ensuring the proper storage, collection, transport, treatment and disposal of solid waste.
